Earth Month at The Cabinet Salon: Thoughtful Choices, Lasting Impact
At The Cabinet Salon, Earth Month is a chance to highlight something that is part of our everyday work year round: making thoughtful choices behind the chair that reduce waste and support a more sustainable beauty industry.
As a proud partner of Green Circle Salons, we participate in a program that recovers salon materials that would otherwise end up in landfills or waterways. Through this initiative, up to 95% of salon waste is recovered, including hair clippings, foils, colour tubes, excess colour, paper, plastics, and other materials that are often difficult to recycle through conventional systems.
Since joining Green Circle, The Cabinet Salon has diverted 4,132 pounds of waste through this program. That number reflects years of small daily habits that matter: separating materials carefully, collecting excess colour instead of rinsing it away, and making sure the byproducts of our work are processed responsibly.
What happens to that waste is equally important. Hair clippings can be repurposed into sustainable materials and environmental cleanup products. Excess colour is separated so that water can be recovered while remaining components are converted into energy. Metals such as foils and colour tubes are cleaned and recycled into raw materials for future manufacturing.
Sustainability at The Cabinet also extends to the products we choose to work with every day. We proudly use AG Care, a Canadian company whose environmental values align closely with our own.
AG manufactures its products in Canada within its own facility, allowing greater control over production, quality, and transportation impact. Their formulas are vegan, cruelty free, and made without drying sulfates, parabens, DEA, PABA, DMDMH, and other unnecessary additives. They also offer refill pouch options on select products, which use 73% less plastic and require 62% less energy to produce than traditional one litre bottles. Their compact format also takes up significantly less space in shipping, helping reduce transportation impact. Across their classic shampoo and conditioner collection, bottles are made with at least 30% post consumer recycled plastic, supporting a more thoughtful approach to packaging overall.
Beyond formulation, AG supports broader environmental and social responsibility through local manufacturing, conscious ingredient standards, and charitable partnerships that support girls’ education through One Girl Can.
For us, Earth Month is not a separate initiative. It is simply a moment to share the choices that happen every day in the salon and to acknowledge that every appointment contributes to that impact too.
Every haircut, every foil collected, every colour tube sorted, every product chosen carefully, all of it adds up.
Thank you for being part of it!
